Custard apple The wonder fruit in pregnancy

     Custard apple(Annona squamosa), also known as Seetaphal in India, is a subtropical fruit belonging to the Annonacea family.It is a round heartshaped soft fruit, having a size around 8cms in diameter with a sweet and delicious taste. It has a white creamy and granular textured flesh, which surrounds black shiny seeds that are not consumed, as they are slightly poisonous. The skin of the fruit is thin and tough, mostly green in colour. Custard apples are a well-balanced food containing protein, fibre, minerals, vitamins, energy and a little fat. A single custard apple contains approximately 237 calories but has a low glycemic index.

    Annona squamosa is a small, semi-deciduous tree, 3-7m in height, with a broad, open crown or irregularly spreading branches, inner bark light yellow and slightly bitter, and is known by different names worldwide.
