A Challenge of the Microchip

India will soon have its largest microchip manufacturing factory. It will boost the availability of semiconductors and offer a golden opportunity to the country’s young generation of software developers to get the best value for the chips and reach new heights in electronics development. The opportunity poses a challenge to enrich the human resources involved in terms of innovative training, practical advice and timely assistance.

Semiconductors, critical for electronic products and processes, are in short supply. The situation will drastically change when the planned factory near Ahmedabad starts production in two years. The venture will be the largest microchip maker in India.

An Indian multinational mining company, Vedanta Resources Limited, recently signed a collaboration agreement with Foxconn, a company in Taiwan to set up the factory and its associated display facilities. The project involves an investment of Rs. 1.54 Lakh Crore ($20 billion). It....
