Understanding Patriarchy

   According to the author, Bell Hooks, patriarchy is the single most life-threatening disease assaulting the male body and spirit. She supports her claim by saying that men have been predominantly made to overrule women because the political-social system is structured in that way.

   In fact, men have been made to use terrorism and violence as a means to endorse patriarchy. But contrarily, they do not know the meaning of the word “patriarchy”. Giving speeches on podiums for more than thirty years, the author noticed that men are unaware of the term patriarchy and often asked her what she meant by it.

    The author throughout her essay defends men and says that men are not to be blamed. My view, however, contrary to what Bell Hooks has argued, is that, it’s high time men should start being rational and give women an opportunity to grow.
