A hierarchy of values that all moral agents possess, demonstrated by their choices, is one of the many definitions of a value system. Values differ from individual to individual and from family, society, nation – one to the other. They are prescriptive beliefs in a society which affect the ethical behaviour of person or a group.

  Even within a society there are different entities which serve the society in different ways, like universities, hospitals, courts, banks, trade, business and manufacturers. The value systems that govern each may differ but all have something in common. Two of the common values are; quality and price. The quality of product or service and at what cost. There cannot be any compromise on quality and there should not be profiteering. Especially in times of crises or shortage, the tendency is to make hay while the sun shines.
