Unforgettable faces of India’s freedom struggle

   Kerala has a unique feature of being a state where the patriotic Indians revolted against the British rule even before the first freedom struggle in 1857, which was popularly known as ‘Sepoy Mutiny’. While considering the cultural and social history of Kerala, many people have contributed to the freedom struggle. Following are some of the prominent freedom fighters from Kerala:

Vakkom Moulavi (1873-1932)

   Vakkom Mohammed Abdul Khader Moulavi was a famous social reformer, teacher, journalist and freedom fighter in Travancore. He was born at Vakkom, Chirayinkil taluk in Thiruvananthapuram. He was the owner of the Swadeshabhimani newspaper, which was banned by the then Travancore government for its criticisms against the activities of the government and Diwan of Travancore.
