-ise or –ize?

  Americans insist on -ize. Traditionally, UK usage prefers -ise, but the Oxford English Dictionary now also suggests -ize.

   Indeed, you can use either as long as you do so consistently.

   The -ize ending is the more globally accepted form on the web. But the following words MUST take the -ise ending:

— advertise, advise,

—chastise, clockwise, comprise, compromise,

— despise, devise, disguise,

— enterprise, excise, exercise, expertise,

— franchise, improvise, merchandise, otherwise,

— promise, revise, supervise and surprise.

Rhyming words

GAGA — slightly mad/crazy/ carried away by love or enthusiasm. He went gaga over the success of his film.

GIBBER-GABBER — gossip/nonsense. I can’t understand a word of his gibber-gabber.
