Malayalam and Tamil cinema A relationship that is bigger than the 70mm screen

    If Malayalam and Tamil cinemas were two people, their relationship would be like that of Tom and Jerry. A frenemy- they might fight, tease and irritate each other, but neither one can live without the other.

   Tamil and Malayalam cinema have portrayed a lot of cultural, societal and geographical crossovers for a really long time. This has given rise to a lot of popular cultures from time to time in both the southern states.

    Also, these crossovers have led to an equal exchange of on-screen love, sarcasm and hatred about the other. Now, the crossovers are inevitable as geographically, both states share a long border. Unlike Tamil Nadu’s other neighbouring states like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, which have only just a couple of entry points, Tamil Nadu has entry points from Kerala like Palakkad, Valparai and Nagercoil. Further, the cultural gap between the two people is small.
