Categorized as world heritage site by UNESCO, the Valley of Flowers, located in district Chamoli of the central Himalayan state, at a height between 3352 meters and 3656 meters, is about to bloom with a riot of natural colours in the form of dense variety of yellow, pink, purple, red, blue, pink, saffron, violet, olive and white flowers. Flowers blossom across the valley in the upper reaches of the rugged mountainous area to the full just before the onset of Monsoon.

   Had it not been for the famous British mountaineer Frank Smythe who discovered this valley of exotic flowers way back in 1931, during the late Monsoon of the same year, the world would not have come to know about its existence. He singularly explored the landscape once again in 1937 and collected some 262 species.
