A Tale of Two Houses

   This is a story of two houses… one that has written a book of history and another that has just opened its chapter. What’s special about them? Well, both have women who have given their life stories a twist. Standing strong in Kolkata is the 100 year old house of Dinky Agarwal. She had practically grown up in that house - a house that held her childhood secrets safe, a house that had witnessed her mischief, a house that showed her places she could hide in.

   So when this friend and confidante of hers turned a 100 years old, she decided to give it a makeover. “Our house comprised quite a large area to conveniently incorporate the modern arrangements that defined a modern house in today’s terms. So there I was, ready to design my ancestral home into a contemporary one,” she says.

   Decision made, Dinky set off to discuss the idea with her family. While they stood by her, the task was definitely not....
