India’s first monkeypox case confirmed at Kollam in Kerala. The Union Health Ministry rushed a high-level multi-disciplinary team to the state to collaborate in instituting public health measures. The Central team comprises of experts from National Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi and a senior official from the Ministry of Health along with experts from Regional Office of Health, Kerala. The team will work closely with the State Health Departments and take stock of the on-ground situation and recommend necessary public health interventions.
Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has tendered his resignation in a letter sent by email to parliamentary speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. Rajapaksa landed in Singapore on a flight from Maldives earlier after fleeing his country in the wake of anti-government protests. Reports say he is accompanied by his wife and two bodyguards.
