Modern India has been evolved by the immense c o n t r i b u t i o n of several altruistic leaders who devoted their life for protecting its national interests and social rejuvenation. They also played a crucial role in changing the outlook of world towards India. They led the country from the front, without being showing any inclination to either of the power blocs.

   Dr. G. Ramachandran (1904-1995) was one among them. He is a golden thread binding together two generations, one that won our independence and the other that enjoys its fruits. He was a rare combination of heart, intellect, imagination, scholarship and humour. He kept himself abreast of both national and international affairs. He had brought in the Gandhian field a synthesis of the holistic approach of Tagore, the spiritual guidance of Vinoba Bhave and the dynamic humanism of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
