How fraudsters swindle the innocent

  Imagine the picture of a decent and hardworking family man with a loving wife and happy children, with a nice paying job, and who has accumulated solid savings over the years. But he has neither the time, nor the knowhow or inclination for investing. Even if there is a desire to invest by his own understanding the tens of thousands of mutual funds (MF), thousands of money managers, hedge funds and brokerage products all confuse this person. So, in the end this individual turns to his family members or friends for advice. It turns out that one of his family members or friends is investing money with a top-notch manager, and recouping solid returns year after year. As such, he requests this family member or friend to arrange a meeting with the top-notch manager. Luckily the top-notch manager who normally says ‘he is very busy’, agrees to meet him. At the meeting, the manager is able to impress this person on a number of issues, but some caveats still remain.....
