World’s Highest Post Office - Hikkim

  Hikkim is a village, which is located in the district of Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. It is at an elevation of 4400 mt that is 14,400 feet above sea level. The nearest town is Kaza around 46 Kms from Hikkim by road.

  The highest inhabited village with homes located between 4330 to 4400 mt., Hikkim is located between the two villages of Langza and Komic.

  The nearest Tibetan monastery is the Tangyud monastery located in Komic village. While, there is another monastery in the Korzok village at 4250m. These villages are located on the Tso Moriri where they live year round at 4570m. Almost all the villagers are Buddhist and their houses are made of stone and wood.

  Located at 14,400 feet height this village is isolated from rest of the Himachal for more than half the year due to heavy snowfall in the mountain passes. The nearest town Kaza is a difficult trek of 46km to the Spiti valley.
