Foreign Invaders and Indian Resistance

   India’s history spans over a millennia. It is rich and has a lot of depth within it. The history begins with the Indus Valley Civilisation (2700-1900 BCE) with its highly developed urban planning and exquisite architecture. After this period, India saw the rise of the Vedic period.

   The Mauryan Empire (332-185 BCE) unified India, especially under Emperor Asoka. The subsequent period, the Gupta Age (320-550 CE), is deemed to be the golden period of Indian history.

  India was known as Sone ki Chidiya or the ‘golden bird’. Gold being a precious metal, anyone who sees it from would like to own it. Invaders came to India from all over the world. It affected the country’s economy severely. In 326 CE, the arrival of Alexander the Great ushered in Greek influence. Nomads from Central Asia also invaded India during the mediaeval period resulting in the Delhi Sultanate and the later Mughal Era.
