In 2014, during the Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s visit to Nepal, he and the then Nepalese PM had expressed their desire to expedite the ground work of the project. Once completed this dam would not only provide electricity and potable water but also would help in controlling floods.

   But now, the project has entered a phase of uncertainty even after twenty four years of signing of the initial treaty. This mega power project being established along the Mahakali river which flows between Nepal and the Indian state of Uttarakhand is yet another sub-Himalayan Hydro power project causing a great deal of concern not only among over 30,000 affected families but also environmentalists.
